South African Festival of Motoring
Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, 31.08 – 04.09.2016
SA Festival of Motoring will be precursor to similar global events
Messe Frankfurt, one of the largest exhibitions and trade show organisers in the world, is so up-beat about the potential of the South African Festival of Motoring, to be staged at the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit from August 31- September 3, that it is already looking at this event as a precursor for similar motoring festivals in other countries.
“There is a worldwide trend away from static motor shows, except for a few prime exhibitions in major cities, and we believe the interactive nature of the upcoming South African Festival of Motoring will be a formula we can replicate in other countries,” said Michael Johannes, Vice President for the Business Field of Mobility and Logistics, Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
“We believe that the South African Festival of Motoring is being seen as a progressive development and is setting the pace in terms of coming up with new concepts for automotive shows.
“A great deal of research has gone into ensuring the first SA Motoring Festival ticks the correct boxes for promoting the products and services of the automotive business sector in a congenial atmosphere. We are satisfied this will be achieved at the first event at Kyalami. We can then fine tune the formula going forward with the Festival as an annual event,” said Konstantin von Vieregge, the recently-appointed CEO of Johannes-based SA Shows Messe Frankfurt.
Trade fair business in Frankfurt started about 800 years ago, modern Messe Frankfurt was established in 1907 and over the years it has expanded the scope of its activities and the countries in which it operates considerably. It currently organises more than 130 events a year at 40 locations on five continents, the majority outside Germany.
The company is constantly looking for new business opportunities and on the automotive front this is now extending from trade shows such as the well-known Automechanika aftermarket event, to motoring events, starting in South Africa and then spreading to Russia and India.
Von Vieregge said he expected several representatives from Messe Frankfurt’s headquarters in Germany together with staff from some of the company’s global subsidiaries to attend the Festival and gain input for other upcoming shows.
